A tale of two business trips

You have a vital midday meeting with a key client in Reims and need your Chairman to be there with you.

Normally, you would leave your Cotswold home before dawn and drive to Heathrow, allowing at least two hours to cover the 90 miles. Parking in the short term car park (£70 for the day), you check in 60 minutes in advance and meet up with your equally frustrated Chairman in the departure lounge. The flight to Charles de Gaulle takes 75 minutes, with soggy sandwiches and lousy coffee.

Another 45 minutes is wasted getting from the aircraft to the taxi rank. Then the journey to Reims takes 2 hours and costs €175 each way. Your return journey will take another 7 hours (assuming everything goes smoothly and your flight isn’t delayed), making you very late home indeed.
